Input by the Community

The questionnaires have generated a lot of information and ideas to take forward into an activity programme for The Larick Centre. There is a really positive feel about the Centre and people are clearly looking forward to using the building.  In particular, the responses are enthusiastic about getting the community together, to celebrate and experience events together, to meet people and to make connections.  At the heart of the Larick Centre, the café will play a crucial role in providing a place to relax and enjoy good company and good food.  Tayport’s residents are also keen for the centre to function as an information point to show what activities and events are happening nearby,  to provide information about local organisations, to advertise opportunities to get involved with local projects, and to suggest interesting places to visit in and around Tayport.

The Larick Centre can be all of this.

The Larick Centre is a building for Tayport’s community by Tayport’s community. As members of that community, we can sustain this wonderful new resource by being part of it and establishing and supporting the activities and events in the centre.

We would like to see people within the community coming forward who are keen and willing to take a lead on or help with activities such as:

  • Parent and preschool children’s groups – with various activities and workshops
  • Support groups for new parents – Breastfeeding, Baby Massage, Children’s Health and Development
  • Bingo sessions; card games, chess club; family games nights
  • Regular dance events
  • A repair café; fix it clubs; tool share
  • After school youth clubs for different ages
  • A Community Cinema
    and any other ideas…

We are also looking for people who are willing to help or take a lead on organising events, such as:

  • Family events such as cycling, beach combing, wildlife exploring
  • Fund raising/ charity events/ fetes
  • Concerts/Ceilidhs
  • Fair trade showcase/ food festival/ wild food festival
  • Local history talks, inspirational speakers on various topics (cultural, environmental, political)
  • A music festival
  • Seasonal (outdoor) events
  • Baking competition

You don’t necessarily need any organisational experience to do this -we can provide assistance to get things going.

To ensure the community has a say about what is going on in the Centre, we would like to set up a User’s Forum. The User’s Forum would be open to people who participate in activities and to those who organise or lead on them. It would have a say about both policy and operational issues, which will be fed back to the Board of Tayport Community Trust.

If you are interested in supporting any of the above, please contact The Larick Centre Project Coordinator, Yvonne Wynia, for more information and/or to volunteer.
