Tayport Community Hub - The Tourism Provision
Please note, the following items make up our aspirations for the development. Time, Capital Funding, and Business Planning will determine the development order and timescale for these.
As an integral part of the Community Hub, Tourism Provision will be varied and open to all. With the site being where it is, this is a perfect opportunity to bring more people to Tayport, and give them a place to stay at the same time. There will be around 1400m2 of space available specifically for this strand.
People walking the Fife Coastal Path, and cycling on the Kingdom Cycle route, plus users of proposed new Pilgrimage routes from Iona to St Andrews, and another across Fife, will benefit from the opportunity to have an overnight stay along the route. The accommodation can also be used by visitors to nearby Tentsmuir Nature Reserve, visiting sports teams, and even by your friends if you've no room to put them up. To facilitate this further, we have secured the web domain for visitTayport and will use this specifically for this aspect of the Hub.
It will be marketed as a quiet place to stay - away from the hustle and bustle of nearby towns and cities. A touring base yes - but also a place of relaxation.
Following a very informative options appraisal, we aim to provide the following:
A 36 bed accommodation building that will also house facilities for general campers. There will be a mixture of 4 and 6 bed dormitory style rooms - some with ensuite facilities - but all with plenty of plug sockets and also the use of Wi-Fi. The hostel will have communal space for cooking and meeting, and have dedicated staff accommodation as well.
Suitable for walkers who are hardened to the Scottish weather. An area available for tents with all facilities in the main accommodation building.
Some hard-standing areas suitable for parking motorised camping vehicles initially without power hook-up which would be installed at a later date. Other facilities within the main accommodation building would be available to caravanners.
Wooden Wigwams / EcoShelters
Following on from many successful sites around the UK, this option will give an all-weather camping solution and appeal to a specific group of the population.
Local Information displays
There is so much to promote in the locality that we will use a series of "Inspiration Points" to share a range of activities. We also plan to showcase the history of the area through various historical displays.
Mountain Bike hire
Being on the Kingdom Cycle Route, having a Bike Hire option seems an obvious choice for some tourers. This will more than likely be delivered by a third party and potentially in conjunction with planned provision at the other side of the Tentsmuir Nature Reserve.
